Probe - Volumetric
The volumetric probe lets you specify a box-shaped region of space in which the magnetic field is calculated on a grid. Using the calculated field, you can create Level-set or Arrow plots.
Grid tab
Here the user size of the box and number of subdivisions in each of the x, y, and z directions. The box is aligned with the axes of its own coordinate system, but may be rotated to arbitrary orientation using the Posn tab.
Position tab
The center of the box is at the origin in object coordinates, which in laboratory coordinates is specified by the position parameters x, y, and z.
Looks tab
The looks tab lets you specify the what will be drawn on the configuration window:
Arrow tab
The Arrow tab controls how arrows plot on the configuration window. Tick the Draw arrows checkbox in order for arrows to be drawn. The Quantity drop-down menu lets you choose between fields (vector potential A or magnetic induction B). The Scale field is the scale factor using for the conversion of field magnitude to arrow length, and has units of meters per tesla when plotting B-field and meters per ampere-meter when plotting A-field. The Max field lets you suppress arrows whose the field magnitude is above the specified level, to avoid pathological arrows from singular fields near wires, for example.
Level tab
The Level tab controls the level set plot on the configuration window. Interactive analog variation of the level is provided via the slider control.
Export
Once the probe is computed you can export the magnetic field by opening the edit window for the volumetric probe and selecting on of the Export commands from the File menu (see the export page for details).
